WiMax is described in one whitepaper as having done to internet connectivity what mobile phones did to the telephone industry. The hype around broadband on the go should neither be under-estimated or taken for granted. The way we work, play or relax has been changed and the good news is that we have been freed from the bondage of network cables. WiMax represents a wide area network (WAN) technology, much like the mobile phone service where a user gets connected as long as he is within the area covered by the service providers' towers. Where Wi-Fi is like an oasis in the desert, WiMax on the other hand makes sure that the desert itself becomes one big oasis by providing internet connectivity for miles. It fills in the gap between hotspots. Most laptops are WiMax compatible and there is no need for extra hardware to be installed or plugged into the user's machine. No SIM card is also required and thus there are no fears for losing either SIM or PIN/ PUK numbers. WiMax indeed offers users the front -seat to internet applications.
