Many small office/home office (SOHO)  and SME enterprises have had their business stifled by the high cost of internet bandwidth in South Africa. For those who could afford it there was the uncapped ADSL offering of the past but this was hugely expensive and slow, making that uncapped ADSL offering impractical for the majority of SOHO users.

Cheaper Uncapped ADSL

But now with the advent of Seacom there is another uncapped ADSL offering emerging on the market that suits the pocket of SOHO users. This offering is pretty much the same as the old offering for uncapped ADSL, except for some feature which have been removed but at such an incredible price.  The older 4Mbps uncapped ADSL, which still exists, costs  around R2995 while the new offering is only R499!

So what is the difference between the older Uncapped ASL offerings and the new Uncapped offerings?

The older offerings are aimed at businesses that require one of the  following:

• Fixed IP addresses – this is only important if you wish to allow external access to machine on your network, a requirement which a lot of SME's and SOHO users do not need
• Unshaped Traffic – If traffic is shaped it means priority is given to certain types of activities on the internet, such as browsing, emial and ftp. It means that if you use the internet for something which is not one the above activities, your experience using the net, for say, Peer-2-Peer activities may be slower than the prioritised activities during busy period. Basically bandwidth will be throttled or turned down during busy times for these activities. Once again there are a large portion of SME and SOHO users for whom this is not an issue.

So if you are a SME or SOHO using uncapped ADSL and wish to upgrade without loosing your shirt or maybe you have the expensive uncapped ADSL and wish to downgrade, now is the time to consider the cheaper uncapped ADSL option.
