The Arduino Ethernet board is based on the Arduino Uno and combind with a WizNet W5100 TCP/IP Embedded Ethernet Controller witch can be programmed like an  Arduino Uno unit using the six-pin FTDI -style serial connector. Any FTDI-style USB-to-serial connector can be used to program the Arduino Ethernet Rev 3

with PoE, this includes the power-over-Ethernet (PoE) module to provide power from a conventional twisted pair Category 5 Ethernet cable.  This is complient with IEEE802.3af and works with all compliant PoE currently available. 

An optional Power over Ethernet module can be added to the board as well.  The Arduino Ethernet board is different from other boards in that it does not have an onboard USB-to-serial driver chip, this works with the wiznet Ethernet interface and as the interface on the Ethernet shield.
